A strong foundation is an essential part of a successfully operating tribal court. This course is designed to enhance the ability of court administrators to evaluate the performance of their court and develop a strategic plan to address the areas of improvement. This course aims to strengthen the court by identifying authoritative guidelines and demonstrating examples on how to create a court rule, administrative order, internal policy, and/or a court clerk’s manual to improve their court. Court administrators will enhance their skills as a supervisor by observing a step-by-step case file audit walkthrough of a civil case. Tribal court administrators are responsible for ensuring a fair administration and access to justice for the community. This course aims to strengthen the court by identifying authoritative guidelines and demonstrating examples on how to create a court rule, an administrative order, an internal policy, and/or a court clerk’s manual to improve the way their court functions. Court administrators will enhance their skills as a supervisor by observing a step-by-step case file audit walkthrough of a civil case.
During this course, you will learn to:
- Describe the essential functions and practical tools for court administration;
- Identify guidelines, policies, controls, and procedures that can exist in a tribal court; and
- Describe how auditing and evaluating a case can support caseflow and enhance the court’s ability to provide a fair and efficient adjudication and disposition of cases.
