Addressing the needs of self-represented litigants in the courtroom has become paramount as the number of court filings have increased with the rise of SRLs. Adequately capturing the needs of self-represented litigants and providing an approach to handle their circumstances will be the focus of this advanced course for judicial officers. The complexities of managing self-represented litigants as they navigate their way through the court procedures and policies will be explored. Case studies and interactive tools will be provided. Skills and strategies to respond to unexpected challenges will be described. Identifying ways to support SRLs in an increasingly automated world, including AI, will be discussed.
