NJC courses for traffic court judges get $800K boost

The College’s educational programs for traffic court judges will receive a boost as the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded an $800,300 grant to the NJC.

Without proper enforcement of laws, commercial motor vehicle operators can cause devastating crashes. Judges have an ethical responsibility to correctly apply state and federal law to these cases, ensuring risky commercial drivers are removed from our roadways.

This grant will allow the College to train judges to do exactly that. The award provides for a pair of 2½-day courses in Reno free to 35 traffic judges. The courses will cover all aspects of commercial driver’s license law and regulations.

It will also support the College’s ongoing Ethically Adjudicating CDL/CDM Cases for Traffic Judges online webcast series. The webcasts are offered to all 50 states with content customized to the laws of each state.

In addition to providing funding for education, the grant will be used for a four-day faculty development course to train new faculty. The award will be allotted to the College over a four-year period.
