Senior Judge Barbara Harcourt received the National Center for State Courts’ (NCSC) Distinguished Service Award on July 12.
The award is presented annually to those who have made significant contributions to the justice system and who have supported NCSC’s mission. Judge Harcourt was honored for her innovative work with NCSC’s Institute for Court Management to develop comprehensive rigorous resources for court leaders’ professional development.
Judge Harcourt continues to serve as a general jurisdiction judge, on senior status, since retiring from the bench in 2006. Prior to retirement, Judge Harcourt served 18 years on the bench in Indiana. Currently, Judge Harcourt is a judicial educator with the Indiana Judicial Center. She has been a member of the faculty of the National Judicial College since 1993 and an alumna of college since 1989. Judge Harcourt received her Master of Judicial Studies degree from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1997.
“She deserves it. She is a wonderful judge and educator,” said Joseph Sawyer, the director of distance learning and technology for the NJC.
Judge Harcourt has taught 25 courses for the NJC, including Probate Law, General Jurisdiction, and specialty rural court courses.
She will be teaching a web-based course in September 2016 titled “Special Considerations for the Rural Court Judge”.
Congratulations Judge Harcourt, we are proud to have you on the faculty of the NJC!
