As the climate changes, so does the water cycle. The Fifth National Climate Assessment identified that changes in temperature and precipitation are expected to worsen drought conditions in many areas of the country. Scientists have found that climate change already affects droughts in the western U.S, raising legal questions about water management. In this webinar, Dr. Benjamin I. Cook, a leading drought scientist at NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies and Columbia University, will share his expertise on the challenges that climate change poses for water availability. Dr. Cook has written over 100 scientific articles on these issues, served as a contributing author of the federal government’s National Climate Assessment, and wrote the textbook, Drought: An Interdisciplinary Perspective. Judge Jennifer Valencia, Second District Court of Utah and chair of Utah’s water judge program, will moderate the webinar.
