NJC Honors Chief Justice Weisberger in Rhode Island 5/15/2009
The National Judicial College’s Board of Visitors presented their first “Advancement of Justice” award to Chief Justice Joseph Weisberger at a special reception held in Newport, Rhode Island on April 27. Justice Weisberger was recognized for his outstanding contributions and dedication to improving justice. The event was attended by friends and colleagues of the chief justice who traveled from across Rhode Island to attend the event. The award was presented to Justice Weisberger at a reception held in conjunction with NJC’s Judicial Philosophy and American Law course and was sponsored by Board of Visitors member John Tarantino’s firm, Adler, Pollock & Sheehan P.C. Justice Weisberger received NJC’s Erwin N. Griswold Award for Teaching Excellence in 1989. He was on NJC’s faculty from 1966-1999. He has also been recognized for his work in a series of national judicial offices, including the American Bar Association House of Delegates, the ABA Judicial Division, the National Conference of State Trial Judges, and election as chair of the National Conference of State Trial Judges. NJC’s Board of Visitors provide leadership, encouragement and support to the National Judicial College. Members work with the NJC administration and Board of Trustees in furthering the College's fundraising activities on a national level. Members include nationally prominent individuals, as well as those rising to future prominence, who share in NJC's mission of advancing justice through judicial education.
