Support from generous donors made 2009 a successful year at The National Judicial College. Successes included not just reaching, but surpassing our fundraising goal, and exceeding expectations in fulfilling our commitment to Education, Innovation, and Advancing Justice. In 2009, we educated more than 3,000 judges through innovative educational offerings provided at NJC’s state-of-the-art facility, as well as at locations across the country.

We are extremely grateful to our donors, our Board of Trustees and our Board of Visitors, who continue to support the College and our important mission despite the impact of the economy that is being felt by all. Our nation’s courts continue to be faced with unprecedented budget challenges, and donor support provides resources which allow the NJC to provide scholarship assistance to judges whose states simply do not have education funding. Donor support also allows the NJC to develop new teaching resources appropriate to conduct research and deliver education. Thus, judges continue to receive invaluable education critical to development of professional skills that are the backbone of fair and impartial justice for all.

We anticipate 2010 to be a challenging year because of the continued budget strains being felt by states and local governments. However, our Program Attorneys, outstanding volunteer Faculty, and Faculty Council have created exceptional course offerings and course content. Revised course offerings include, Ethics, Fairness, and Security in your Community and Courtroom, and Advanced Issues in Cases Involving Co-Occurring Mental and Substance Abuse Issues, to name a couple. We continue to increase our collaborations, including offering our Administrative Law: Advanced Course with Widener Law School in Delaware. This is just a tiny sampling of the programs NJC is offering. Click here for a full listing of our 2010 course offerings.

Donor support is becoming increasingly important and we appreciate your consideration of new or renewed support for the College. An investment can be made through a number or programs, including National Associates of Justice, Circle of Justice, Pillars of Justice Fund and the Legacy Council – each provides important long-term support for the College. There are also opportunities to stretch your gift over a calendar year with our easy-to-set-up monthly donor program, as well as the ability to make a secure and hassle-free gift online.  To learn more about how your support can make an impact, please click here or you can donate now by using our secure, online donation site.

Thank you for supporting the College’s commitment to Education, Innovation and Advancing Justice. Feel free to contact me directly at (775) 327-8257 or by email if you have any questions related to our 2010 schedule of courses or how you can make a donation to any one of our worthwhile programs.

Sincerely,

Gretchen Alt Sawyer
